Mano con Mano Health Reach

Mr. Jones' 9th grade class painted the school in San Jose de Yalu during "Servant's Days" for CAG. This project opened up many doors for future ministry by forming a bond between CAG and Yalu teachers and students while demonstrating that we care about the children of this village.

CAG Report

Christian Academy of Guatemala is winding down the school year. Classes end in late May and will resume in mid August. Memo (Bill) has taught four classes--U.S. History, Senior and Junior English and World Cultures-- this year. The parents of his students are pastors, build and run orphanages, construct job centers, establish feeding programs and other caring—and necessary--ministries in Guatemala. These parents would not be able to serve in this way if they had to remain home to teach the 215 students who attend CAG.
This has been a hard but productive year for Memo and the students. Students have learned how to write papers for college, how to use irregular verbs, and what their rights and privileges are as guaranteed under the Constitution. Maybe not all fun, but certainly some things they hopefully will never forget. There have been some fun times in class–like the time the students played an April Fool’s prank on Mr. Jones by receiving numerous cell phone calls, boys brawling while others ate McDonald’s food and danced around the room. Chaos it was, but also one of those special MK (Missionary Kid) moments. MKs are a special brand of young men and women, and with parents deeply involved in various ministries, they need special attention, love, and assurance. Hopefully, with God’s help, these needs were somewhat met by their new teacher, Mr. Jones. Thanks for all your help in allowing this to happen, MCM!

Villas del Sol Team
April 2004
exercepts from e-updates during week

The clinics are going well. The vision team is busy and today saw a gentleman with glaucoma. We were able to help him with funds to seek care here from an eye doctor. Dr. Brian Nelson said that without care this man would probably go blind in a year from the glaucoma. Even though it is hard to see such things, it is good to know that we can help. Those needing help arrive before 7:00am and wait patiently to be seen. The dental clinic has been very busy. We saw 51 patients yesterday and 47 today!! Some patients have many teeth that are hopelessly damaged, but it is a blessing to restore health when we can.
Friday is always the toughest day. We are tired and have so much packing up to do. Yet we want to stay and visit with the new friends we have made. The church provided us with a wonderful homemade lunch after the clinic today. It gave us the opportunity to present the Villas church with a donated communion set that had been polished to look like new. Pastor Jose was very touched with the gift and we are excited that they will be able to use it for Easter services.
The Vision Clinic saw 838 people during the week and the Dental Clinic saw 212 for a grand total of 1048 people served during the week. 193 people asked to receive Christ, and 74 others asked for prayer or a pastoral visit. Please pray that those who received the Lord will not let the moment pass but will continue to seek Him and grow. Also pray for those that will be following up on the pastoral visits. They have a series of Bible studies and will need strength and encouragement to follow up with all the people. Thank you for your prayers and support and we are all excited to be home again!!
